Accessibility statement
This website should work for everyone. Here’s how it’s built, and what is known not to work yet.
The aim
josephcarey.com aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.
What’s built in
- A “skip to content” link and a logical heading structure on every page.
- Everything works with a keyboard, including the menu, galleries and video player. Press Escape to close them.
- Descriptive alternative text on images. Decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
- Captions on every video, and a full transcript on each video’s page.
- If your device is set to reduce motion, animations and parallax are turned off.
- Text is real text, not pictures of text, and can be zoomed to 200% without breaking the layout.
- Strong colour contrast: yellow and white on black, and black on yellow.
- The drag-to-compare image also works as a slider with the keyboard.
Known issues
- Screenshots of websites on the websites pages contain text inside the image. Each has a short description, and the case study text explains what they show.
- The Contact Sheet mosaic is decorative and hidden from screen readers. The photos it samples appear with descriptions elsewhere on the site.
