Privacy policy
The short version: this site uses no cookies and no forms. Visitor numbers are counted with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which doesn’t identify you.
Who’s responsible
This website, josephcarey.com, is run by Joseph Carey, based in Shropshire, England. He is the data controller for any personal data the site handles. To get in touch about privacy, email hello@josephcarey.com or message him on LinkedIn.
What this site doesn’t do
- No cookies are set.
- No tracking across other websites, and no profiles of individual visitors.
- No advertising.
- No forms, accounts or newsletter sign-ups, so you’re never asked for personal details.
- No third-party embeds: fonts, photos and videos are all served from this site itself, not from Google, YouTube or anyone else. The only outside script is Cloudflare’s analytics, described below.
What does happen
Server logs. Like every website, the company that hosts this site automatically records basic technical information when a page is requested, such as your IP address, browser type, the page and the time. This is used only to deliver the site and keep it secure, and is kept for a short time by the host. The legal basis is legitimate interests: running a website that works and is safe.
Visitor numbers. Visitor numbers are measured with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which does not use cookies or identify individuals. It counts things like page views, which pages are popular, the referring site, and the country and type of device, and shows them only as totals. The legal basis is legitimate interests: understanding which work people look at.
Visits from AI assistants. If you arrive from an AI assistant such as ChatGPT, Perplexity or Claude, the site notes which assistant it was, the page you landed on and your country, and counts it with Cloudflare Analytics Engine. Nothing else is recorded: no IP address, no cookie and nothing that identifies you. It shows which AI tools send people here. The legal basis is legitimate interests.
If you email. Messages to hello@josephcarey.com are passed on by Cloudflare Email Routing to Joseph’s own inbox. Your name, email address and message are used only to reply to you, and aren’t added to any mailing list. The legal basis is legitimate interests: answering the message you sent.
Links to other sites. Some links go to other websites, like LinkedIn and gren.app. They have their own privacy policies.
“Ask AI about Joseph”. The buttons at the bottom of every page open an AI assistant (Gemini in Google AI Mode, ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity or Microsoft Copilot) in a new tab with a question about this website. The question is the same for everyone and contains nothing about you. Nothing is sent until you click, and once you do, that company’s own privacy policy applies. AI answers can contain mistakes, so check anything important on this site.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018) you have the right to ask what personal data is held about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to object to how it’s used. Get in touch using the details above. If you’re not happy with the response, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
Changes
Cloudflare Web Analytics was added on 30 September 2026 and the count of visits from AI assistants on 26 October 2026; this page was updated before each went live. If the site ever adds forms or anything else that uses personal data, this page will be updated first.
